PlayStation has announced that a PS5 beta update that adds several features and improvements, such as accessibility and quality-of-life options, is being rolled out.
As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, invites are currently being sent out to users in participating countries for the latest PS5 firmware update. The update is set to bring with it additional accessibility options, such as the ability to use a second controller as an assist to be used by one player or a second person while acting as a singular controller. The update also adds the ability to use the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback to help guide vision-impaired players through the system UI.
The update also expands the PS5’s additional memory capability, allowing users to extend their memory with M.2 SSD cards up to 8TB in size. Arguably the most exciting improvement in this update is the simplest, as you will soon be able to change the volume of the system power beep or mute it entirely. Soon the fear of waking my partner up by turning on the PS5 will be a thing of the past.
The other features and improvements coming with this new update are:
- Support for Dolby Atmos-enabled devices
- Improved private party invite process
- Screen share preview window
- Improvements made to the join friend feature
- A game tournament tile is being added to the applicable game hubs
- Emoji reactions are being added to the chat function
- A search function is being added to your game library
- Improvements to game help cards
- a Discover Tips option is being added to the system settings
As stated, this update is currently heading to users in participating countries, however, PlayStation has said that the update will be rolling out to all users later in the year. You can head on over to the PlayStation Blog for a full breakdown of the upcoming firmware update.
