EA and ACMI have announced a free Y2K-inspired installation to take place between February 21-23 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Sims.
Running from Friday until Sunday, the pop-up will evoke the unique styles and trends present in the year 2000, complete with inflatable couches and fuzzy rugs. Created by the interior design duo Josh & Matt Design, the space is meant to transport onlookers into a pre-teen’s bedroom during the turn of the century, lining up perfectly with the release of the original Sims in February of the same year. Fans of the series will want to keep their heads on a swivel, as easter eggs are said to be scattered about the space.
In addition to the installation, attendees can make free bookings to play The Sims: Birthday Bundle, which was recently released, and listen to various panels. Running throughout Saturday, the panel will include a variety of guests, such as Mavis Chan, General Manager of Simulation Division at EA/Firemonkeys, Jini Maxwell, Curator at ACMI and Josh Jessup and Matt Moss of Josh & Matt Design.
If you are happier just being in a nostalgic space and enjoying your Sims obsession, there will also be a range of livestream feeds of Sims creators doing their thing for you to enjoy.
The event will be held at ACMI in Federation Square in Melbourne. You can register for free access here.
