AFL 23’s Version Of Ultimate Team Is Called Star Team

Reach for the stars

At last week’s AFL 23 launch event, Big Ant Studios’ CEO Ross Symons confirmed that the developer is looking at adding AFL legends to the game and hinted at a possible Ultimate Team-esque mode, and over the weekend former AFL player Mitch Robinson revealed that it will be called Star Team.

Robinson didn’t directly announce the news, instead it was spotted during his AFL 23 vlog where he able to film inside Big Ant Studios, giving us a cheeky look at the game’s main menu where Star Team was listed.

However, Robinson did manage to score a scoop, exclusively revealing that player cards are coming to AFL 23. The video gives us a look at Lance Franklin’s player cards and it looks like there are three tiers – Gold, Silver and Bronze.

For those unaware, Ultimate Team is the popular mode in EA’s FIFA series where players can build a team and compete online with other players to win coins. Your coins can then be spent on player packs where you’ll have the chance to obtain better and rare players. Of course, if you want to fast-track your team, EA isn’t against taking your hard-earned money, and it’s a mechanic that has fallen foul of players and regulators on multiple occasions. As such, it’ll be interesting to see what monetisation features Big Ant implement given its classification rating lists “in-game purchases.”
