Ubisoft has revealed that a standalone Assassin’s Creed multiplayer title is in development, codenamed Project Invictus.
Having previous shown interest in reviving the once-popular online offering, Ubisoft made the announcement during the company’s most recent earning report. As described in the report, the multiplayer game will be a part of the upcoming nexus known as Assassin’s Creed Inifnity and is being developed by a new team that “includes For Honor veterans.”
There’s no more info at this stage, but knowing that the game is in the hands of people who worked on For Honor is promising, considering that title’s quality and longevity. Assassin’s Creed Unity back in 2014 was the last game to feature a multiplayer component, though the popularity of the mode seemed to be at its height with Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood.
While the mode was introduced at a time when seemingly every single-player game had tacked-on multiplayer, the Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood offering was genuinely quite fun. With multiple game types to play through, your target was largely to hunt down and assassinate a player, while avoiding another player trying to assassinate you.
