Big Ant Studios Is Developing The Next AFL Video Game

Ross the Boss

The next AFL game will be developed by Melbourne’s Big Ant Studios, the first time the studio will be in charge of Australia’s great sport since AFL Live 2011 was released.

Big Ant Studios CEO Ross Symons took to Twitter tonight to post a short video that showed the words “I’ve got a feeling” while the intro to the AFL’s theme song, Holy Grail by Hunters & Collectors played. Our friends over at Press Start have confirmed that Big Ant has been handed the AFL licence.

The previous two AFL games, AFL Evolution and AFL Evolution 2 were developed by Melbourne’s Wicked Witch, and while they didn’t rack up the plaudits (we scored them 6 and 6.5 respectively), they made a decent effort of turning the difficult sport into a video game.

Big Ant, which has spent the past few years developing tennis, cricket, rugby and even lacrosse video games, was acquired by French publisher Nacon last year, and with extra financial backing behind them, they’ll have the weight of Australia’s AFL video game fans on their shoulders. Hopefully a reveal isn’t far away.
