Crash Team Rumble Confirmed To Have No Story Mode

Just a brutal fruit-fest with your mates

Crash Team Rumble has seen a slew of new information released today; with details showing it’s core gameplay loop, pricing and beta details.

A Toys for Bob developer presentation with Associate Creative Director Lou Studdert and Creative Director Dan Neil ended with a Q&A that allowed curious parties to ask some questions about the game, revealing additional information regarding the games post-release strategy, and the absence of a dedicated story mode.

The Q&A had questions asked anonymously, with the specific details as follows:

  • How long does a ‘Rumble’ take?
    • Internal testing seems to suggest that on average, its 10 to 15 minutes of gameplay.
  • What is the name of the new ‘Goth Bat’ character?
    • Not ready to be announced… yet.
  • Can players play against AI opponents, for the sake of training?
    • Yes, players can play against Bot opponents, and even in private lobbies.
  • Does the Battle Pass provide any advantage to players?
    • No – The battle pass is entirely cosmetics.
  • Is there a narrative or ‘Story Mode’ for the game?
    • There is no narrative component to the game, It’s multiplayer focused.

We reached out to a representative to confirm the last point, just to ensure that it was not mistaken on our part – Phrasing the question as bluntly as possible: “Confirming there is nothing resembling a story mode within the game, due to its multiplayer focus?”

The answer? “That is correct – however the game will receive updates over the course of it’s lifetime.”

So while there may not be a sweeping narrative, the game will have ongoing support that might tickle the Bandicoot pickle of people who love Wumpa lore.
