Crash Team Rumble Gameplay Reveals It’s All About Frenetic Fruit Finding

The mayhem will even have a beta period in April

Crash Bandicoot crashed The Game Awards 2022 with an announcement that the mad marsupial was diversifying his portfolio. From adventuring and kart racing, it was time to branch out in a new direction – competitive fruit collection.

Crash Team Rumble is a super unique competitive experience where teams of four face off in a race to grab the most Wumpa fruit. Being a Crash game, a ton of weird and wonderful characters are present – and each have their own set of tools to suit. Smash boxes and SSSLURP up the fruit, while unlocking bonuses and scrambling to deposit your goods before the enemy team beats you – both figuratively and literally.

We actually got some tasty footage of the game in action, if you want a colourful treat for your eyes:

Being a multiplayer-only title, the game is even priced quite generously. In Australia, $44.95 will nab you the Standard Edition, or you can upgrade to a Deluxe for $64.95.

But don’t let the multiplayer-only descriptor worry you – it has been confirmed that the game will launch with an AI-only mode, so you can play against bots and hone your skills. Or perhaps you’d rather keep your matches private, throwing down with close friends and colleagues who crave the wicked wumpa like yourself.

A preorder will even net you access to the upcoming beta experience in April, if you want to assemble your bandi-crew and get familiar with it all:

I am always in the market for new competitive experiences that don’t take themselves too seriously – and this may be the king of them all. Who can get mad at a spinning bandicoot stealing your slurpy apple-things?

Crash Team Rumble is set to release for PS4, PS5, Xbox One X and Xbox X|S on June 20, 2023. Pre-orders include access to the closed beta, scheduled for April 2o.

Are you a sucker for Wumpa collecting? Perhaps a future Dingodile main? Let us know in the comments or on our social media.
