Although I am partial to bangin’ out some Dangerous Woman by Ariana Grande during my competitive CS:GO, League or Overwatch sessions, nothing gives me greater pleasure than enjoying the diverse soundtracks to my single player games.
Aside from staying true to the vision of the creators from an aural aspect, I just really love music and more often than not I will fall in love with some new artist or composer that I may never have heard of before. One of my favourite musical aspects in games is when a real time radio is present front and centre with great impact, games like Fallout: New Vegas, Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City have had some of the coolest soundtracks on the planet because of this unique medium.
And now it would appear that the most hyped game on the planet right now, Cyberpunk 2077 will have something similar according to lead quest designer Paweł Sasko.
In a recent video tweet, Sasko explains that aside from obtaining a bunch of different vehicles (like motorbikes and cars) throughout the game and being able to store favourite makes and models in a garage for future use, is that players will also be able to tune in to various radio stations in these vehicles and listen to all kinds of music as they cruise around causing mayhem in the sprawling world of Night City.
As to exactly what genres, artists and just how in depth the radio will go is yet to be seen. But my money is on the aforementioned style of GTA. Seriously, I just want some dope Vaporwave station with a husky android DJ spinning Macintosh Plus and talking to me gently.
Make it so CDPR.
Although he has been gaming since the Sega Mega Drive launched in 1990, he still sucks at most games. When not being trash he watches French horror films, drinks herbal tea and secretly loves the music of Taylor Swift.
