December 2022’s PlayStation Plus Essential Games Have Been Revealed

A holiday helping of games

Congratulations, everyone, we’ve made it to the end of the year. For many, the holiday season means taking a break, eating a lot of food and playing a bunch of video games. For those working a retail Christmas, you’ll need games to unwind from the terror of last-minute shopping mania. November’s PlayStation Plus line-up prepared us for the silly season with Nioh 2LEGO Harry Potter Collection and Heavenly Bodies, but now it’s time to see what PlayStation has wrapped up for us this year.

Announced on the PlayStation Blog, the PlayStation Plus Essential games for December are Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Divine Knockout: Founder’s Edition and Biomutant. All three games will be available to download from December 6.

I’m Commander Shepard, and this is my favourite video game collection on the Citadel. Sorry, it was a low-hanging fruit. Collecting Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and, believe it if you will, Mass Effect 3, the Legendary Edition brings together Commander Shepard’s entire journey into one package. Additionally, the collection contains over 40 single-player DLCs including armour, weapons and story content. We gave the Mass Effect Legendary Edition a 9.

We haven’t had a new release on PlayStation Plus in a hot minute, but the drought is nearly over. Divine Knockout is a new third-person platformer brawler with players taking on the role of gods trying to damage each other and launch them from the play area. With ten playable gods to choose from, players wield various weapons and godly abilities to dominate in 3v3, 2v2 or 1v1 battles. The Founder’s Edition included in this month’s PS Plus will unlock the game, bonus content and a DKO skin in Smite.

Mixing together a post-apocalyptic setting, a fuzzy protagonist and martial arts combat, Biomutant is nothing if not unique. Wandering through a visually distinct open world, your player-created creature will head off on adventures and grow in strength using RPG systems. Though it has some warts, Biomutant is a fun romp many have gravitated to, so it’s well worth downloading. We gave Biomutant a 7.5.

If you haven’t downloaded Nioh 2, LEGO Harry Potter Collection and Heavenly Bodies, you’ve got until December 5 to do so. As always, please remember that you can add these games to your library and download them later if you don’t have any precious space on your hard drive.
