Diablo IV May Still Be A While Off, But This Quarterly Update Showcases Some Gorgeous Visuals

The Q2 Development Update dives deeeep into character visuals

So Diablo IV is still not in our hellish hands, but at least the crew at Blizzard is happy to show their progress.

Just this week they have dropped another one of their quarterly updates – showcasing some of the character art that will appear in game, including a preview of the returning Armor Dye system to keep your look fresh. Take a squiz at these Sorceress fashions, all wearing the same gear but with different palettes:

The blog post is penned by Art Director John Mueller, Lead Character Artist Arnaud Kotelnikoff, and Associate Art Director for Characters Nick Chilano, with each taking the time to explain a particular facet of what they are trying to accomplish. Even if you aren’t a fan of reading words – there is a ton of high res art and embedded videos demonstrating player character models and enemies alike – it’s worth heading over there even just to check out The Blood Bishop, a spooky enemy dude who seems to be made out of meat and blood — and not in the usual way.

Considering the incredibly simplistic visuals of Diablo 3, I am in awe at what is currently being accomplished for the fourth instalment. I swear I have spent 10 minutes looking at this example image of player characters, both in awe and concern that my PC is not going to like running this game on high settings:

And if you are strapped for time, you can even enjoy some show-y footage courtesy of the Diablo Twitter feed – just check out these barbarians:

While Diablo IV is quite a way off from release, we can at least enjoy Diablo II: Resurrected’s Release to tide us over. For now, head on over to the Blizzard News portal and check out the full blog post: DIABLO IV QUARTERLY UPDATE—JUNE 2021

Diablo IV does not yet have a release date (but is confirmed to not be a 2021 release).
