DreamHack has announced that the Australian leg of the festival tour will not be held next year and that it has no plans to run the event in the future.
A post on the team’s X account broke the unfortunate news. The post thanked fans and attendees for their support over the years and expressed their enjoyment of hosting the events.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share with you the news that DreamHack Melbourne will not be returning in 2025, and that there are currently no plans to hold further DreamHack events in Australia in the foreseeable future. ”

Referred to as a “gaming lifestyle festival,” DreamHack is a string of events held worldwide that celebrates gaming and pop culture. From eSports events and LAN parties to cosplay competitions and meet-and-greets, the DreamHack events have drawn in thousands of like-minded lovers of games, anime, and more.
This year’s DreamHack Melbourne took place in April, and at the time, we were stoked to learn that Melbourne was locked in to continue hosting the event for the next five years. Unfortunately, as we just discovered, that will no longer be the case.
Australia can often feel extremely separated from exciting events and opportunities, making DreamHack, South by Southwest Sydney and PAX Aus so important. Seeing that grouping of events shrink is devastating, particularly for those who so infrequently have the opportunity to come together with like-minded people who share interests and hobbies that have historically been shunned.
We can hope that DreamHack will eventually find its way back to Melbourne, but for now, share your thoughts and memories of the event with us in the comments or our social media.
