It’s easy to start these articles with the old “this is a stacked month” line, but April really does live up to that sentiment. Long-awaited indies, huge RPGs jumping to new platforms, dark horse action games, and a few titles that buck trends for their developers and publishers join one of the biggest PlayStation releases for 2026. At least two or three games speak to each of us here at the WellPlayed offices, so that’s a good indication that April will have something for everyone, no matter which genre you lean towards or what platform you play on. Without any further delay, let’s take a look at which games you should get around in April 2026.

Darwin’s Paradox!

Developer: ZDT | Publisher: Konami | Platform: PS5 / Xbox Series X|S / Switch 2 / PC | Release: April 2 | Wishlist

Darwin’s Paradox! may not be the stealth game that comes to mind when you hear Konami, but the blue octopus is sneaking around bases and using tactical camouflage nonetheless. Following the titular tenetacled fella, Darwin’s Paradox! is a side-scrolling stealth adventure game that challenges players to use their octo abilities to solve puzzles and move quietly around guards, cameras, and other threats. Moving through junkyards, military bases, and many other environments, this cute mascot is on a mission to get himself out of danger, while more ominous machinations unfold as you move forward.

Xenonauts 2

Developer: Goldhawk Interactive | Publisher: Hooded Horse | Platform: PC | Release: April 2 | Wishlist

Did you enjoy Firaxis’ XCOM titles? Are you itching for more of that tasty turn-based squads versus aliens action? Perhaps put Xenonauts 2 on your radar, which is now leaving Steam Early Access. Serving as a spiritual successor to the original X-COM titles from the 90s, this is an approachable modern take on this series that still honours the look and feel of the classic games. The XCOM formula is distilled into two halves: base management game, and tactical, squad-based missions that occur around the globe. You are in charge of leading counter operations against invading UFO forces seeking a foothold on our planet. Manage your budget, build facilities, kit out your commandos, and then lead them on campaigns where cover is crucial and being out of position might lead the troops you’ve bonded with to an early grave.

Samson: A Tyndalston Story

Developer: Liquid Swords | Publisher: Liquid Swords
Platform: PC | Release: April 8 | Wishlist

Samson: A Tyndalston Story is the debut game from Liquid Swords, the studio founded by Just Cause creator Christofer Sundberg, that sees you step into the shoes of Samson McCray, who returns to the titular city of Tyndalston after spending time behind bars as the scapegoat after a robbery goes wrong. The catch is that your sister made a deal to keep you safe in prison on the promise that you’ll repay every cent lost in the botched robbery upon release. Use your wheels to drive around the city and use your fists to cash in on small jobs to pay back your debt in this brawler that might appease fans longing for GTA VI and a return of Rocksteady’s Batman series.

The Occultist

Developer: DALOAR | Publisher: Daedalic Entertainment | Platform: PS5/Xbox Series/PC | Release: April 9 | Wishlist

Are you a fan of the occult? Do you like spooky things and all things paranormal? Perhaps you also dig the name, Alan? If you answered yes to any of these (especially the last one), then The Occultist sounds like it ticks all of your boxes. It’s a first-person narrative thriller that sees you play as Alan Rebels, a paranormal investigator who heads to the abandoned Godstone Island to investigate the mysterious disappearance of his father. Explore this long-forgotten British island, come face-to-face with supernatural entities, and uncover occult rituals that perhaps should stay buried, as you search for answers.

Soulmask

Developer: CampFire Studio | Publisher: Qooland Games | Platform: PC | Release: April 10 | Wishlist

Another title leaving Early Access is a multiplayer survival crafting game aimed at Egyptian mythology sickos. Soulmask dials in on power fantasy rather than sharper tools. Taking great liberties with the genre, players will do the usual base building stuff, constructing all manner of grand sailing and flying ships, but it’s the titular masks that bring the real flavour. The masks represent the gods, allowing players to switch them up in order to soup up their hero of a chosen tribe before partnering up for world bosses. The mask powers break any pretence of conventional survival crafting, with masks that restore life on death, grant flight, or hold your opponents in stasis using water so that you can do them slowly. There’s a bunch more being added with the upcoming release. Player-versus-player or cooperative, this is still a hardcore survival title with all the trimmings, designed for those that want to buildcraft and grind their way to defeating this world’s bosses, or instead preserve a base on your server from rival raiders.

Dosa Divas

Developer: Outerloop Games | Publisher: Outerloop Games / Outersloth | Platform: PC | Release: April 15 | Wishlist

We love games with a little spice. A touch of pepper. A real new and exciting flavour. That is exactly what Dosa Divas is offering, where you control a pair of sisters that are fighting back against a fast food empire with the power of their HOME COOKED MEALS. But no, it’s not a Cooking Mama-type thing; these gals are packing a full-blown cooking MECH and do battle in turn-based, JRPG-like food skirmishes. It is absolutely dripping with the kind of creative juices that have us salivating, so do get amongst it, fellow food-lovers.

Replaced

Developer: Sad Cat Studios | Publisher: Thunderful Games
Platform: Xbox Series X|S/PC | Release: April 15 | Wishlist

Replaced is a slick-as-fuck 2.5D sidescrolling action-platformer set in a stunning pixel art alternate 1980s cyberpunk world. You’re R.E.A.C.H., an AI trapped in a human body and a creation of the Phoenix Corporation, the same corporation you’ve now set out to expose. With some incredibly satisfying action that makes you feel like John Wick, Replaced could be one of the year’s best action experiences.

Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss

Developer: Big Bad Wolf | Publisher: Nacon
Platform: PS5/Xbox Series/PC | Release: April 16 | Wishlist

Big Bad Wolf’s Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is a first-person investigative adventure that sees Noah descend into the depths of the Pacific Ocean to search for a team of missing miners. But it seems the miners have awakened an ancient horror, and Noah finds more than he expects as he explores the sunken city of R’lyeh in search of answers while trying to keep his sanity.

Pragmata

Developer: Capcom | Publisher: Capcom | Platform: PS5 / Xbox Series X|S / Switch 2 / PC | Release: April 17 | Wishlist

Capcom’s most elusive tile (which is saying something), Pragmata is an interesting amalgamation of puzzle-solving and third-person shooting. This sci-fi action title sees protagonist Hugh and his very human-like android buddy, Diana, work through a lunar research station filled with mechanical threats. While Hugh is packed to the gills with firearms, dispatching these robo-baddies will require the player to hack them before the fireworks go off. Yes, this means you’ll be challenged to complete a hacking puzzle in real time before you can do any real damage. It’s a difficult mix of ideas to envision that only really makes sense once you’ve gone hands-on with this unique title, which we did late last year.

Mouse: P.I. For Hire

Developer: Fumi Games | Publisher: PlaySide | Platform: PS5 / Xbox Series X|S / Switch 1 & 2 / PC | Release: April 19 | Wishlist

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire combines the addictive gameplay of a first-person shooter with classic 1930s cartoon visuals. You’ll step into the shoes of Jack Pepper, a private investigator, and try to survive the enemies right around the corner with your cartoon weapons and power-ups. Featuring black-and-white visuals, hand-drawn frame-by-frame rubber hose designs, and a banging jazz soundtrack, you’ll feel like you stepped right back in time.

Kiln

Developer: Double Fine Productions | Publisher: Xbox Games Studio | Platform: PS5 / Xbox Series X|S / PC | Release: April 24 | Wishlist

Pottery has never been so fun to destroy with your friends. In this online multiplayer title, get creative, sculpt, decorate, and embody your own personal ceramic pot to determine how you’ll play and use your abilities. Where fragile and explosive gameplay meet, verse other teams with your friends in 4v4 brawls and feel the satisfaction of literally destroying others, all to get to their kiln and annihilate it with water from the very pot you are playing as.

Outbound

Developer: Square Glare Games | Publisher: Square Glare Games | Platform: PC | Release: April 24 | Wishlist

If you’re itching for a road trip and off-grid living, Outbound has got you covered. Journey with up to four friends through amazing landscapes featuring diverse biomes and peaks of interest to discover in your very own electric van powered by the sun, wind, or water. You can not only customise your van but literally build a liveable home on top of the van itself, thanks to the crafting workstations. Living off-grid has never been so cozy, just don’t forget your garden and furry friends.

Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred

Developer: Blizzard | Publisher: Blizzard | Platform: PS5 / Xbox Series X|S / PC | Release: April 28 | Wishlist

We reviewed Diablo IV well enough despite its faults way back when – but many definitely fell off its demonic bandwagon along the way. Fast forward to now, and a myriad of incremental improvements have built like an immense wave, all but ready to crash onto the shore of your free time in the form of the Lord of Hatred expansion. With a hot new Warlock class (which our very own Ash has already played, and is ITCHING to play more of) and promising a jaunt to parts of the world left unravaged by demons, it will be like a summer holiday. Only bloodier.

Saros

Developer: Housemarque | Publisher: SIE | Platform: PS5 | Release: April 30 | Wishlist

Acting as something of a spiritual successor, Saros sees developer Housemarque return to and expand on the fast-paced, third-person roguelite action of Returnal. Exploring the twisted and confusing world of Carcossa, Soltari enforcer Arjun Devraj (played by Rahul Kohli) will encounter otherworldly threats that can only be slain by mastering the various abilities, weapons, and tools at his disposal. A bullet-hell title with a strong focus on narrative, Saros looks to take everything that made its predecessor so fantastic and add more layers to its foundations. We loved Returnal, slapping a big 9.5 on our review, so it’s safe to say we’re keen to jump into Saros next month.

It’s wild to say, but we haven’t even scratched the surface on April’s release calendar. Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is getting some wild new DLC, Starfield is finally coming to PS5, Pokémon Champions is hitting the scene, and, most importantly, I Am Jesus Christ is gifting us with its presence. Praise be. No matter your niche is, there’s absolutely something for you in the fourth month of the year.
