Bethesda Game Studios has announced that its latest RPG, Starfield, will be coming to PS5 on April 8, coinciding with a new paid expansion and a free content update.
After more than two years, PS5 owners will finally be able to suit up and embark on Bethesda’s space-faring adventure. Having originally launched on Xbox Series X|S and PC back in 2023, we all figured it would be a matter of time before Starfield made its way to PlayStation, but I don’t imagine anyone thought it would take this long. Regardless, the wait is almost over, and the PS5 version takes advantage of the hardware, with adaptive trigger support, lightbar integration, and a pair of PS5 Pro graphical options: Performance and Visual.
Releasing alongside the PS5 version will be a brand-new paid story DLC titled Terran Armada. This expansion will introduce a new set of quest lines, featuring new characters, enemy types, locations, and rewards. The new content is centred around the titular group and their robotic enforcers, many of whom you’ll encounter in…less than friendly ways. If you’re already cruising through space in Starfield and want to jump into the DLC, you’ll be looking at parting with $15.95 to get around the new content.
Back in 2024, the Trackers Alliance faction was added to the game, offering players a new way to interact with the world as a bounty hunter. A new update, now available to existing players, adds five new adventures to the experience, introducing new targets, contracts, and rewards. You’ll need to jump into the game’s Creations menu to unlock this new content, which will set you back 700 Creation Credits (sure).
Lastly, the Free Lanes update is landing on the same day, with improvements and new features. Among others, Free Lanes will see the addition of interplanetary travel, meaning you’ll now be able to take control of your ship as you make your way between planets in the current system. Chance encounters and activities will spice up your flight, but you’ll also be free to explore your ship and interact with your crew. Outside of that, a new vehicle, new locations, new crewmates, and tweaks to New Game Plus will also be added, giving new and returning players something to bite into.

Two editions will be available to those looking to pick up Starfield on PS5. The Standard Edition, which includes just the base game, will set you back $79.95, whereas the Deluxe Edition, which will hook you up with the game and both DLC expansions, will run you $109.95.
Back when it launched in 2023, we came away from Starfield largely impressed, with only a few key caveats. We scored Starfield an 8.5, saying in our review, “Starfield is a magical, if a little clumsy, first journey to the stars for Bethesda, the RPG maker reminding us of the power of player freedom, engaging writing, and just a little jank.”
