Xbox and Halo Studios have revealed Halo: Campaign Evolved, a complete remake that’s making history by releasing on Xbox Series X|S and PC, as well as PS5.
As detailed on Xbox Wire, Campaign Evolved will see the entirety of Halo: Combat Evolved’s single-player remade within Unreal Engine 5, with a few notable changes and additions. Outside of an obvious visual overhaul, Campaign Evolved will feature three new prequel missions fronted by both Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson. Players will be able to make their way through the new and newly retouched missions in two-player local co-op on console, or up to four-player co-op online, with the latter offering coming complete with crossplay and cross progression.
Nine new weapons will be added to Chief’s arsenal, including franchise favourites like the Energy Sword and Needle Rifle. On top of the expanded range of weapons, Chief and company will also be able to sprint, which will undoubtedly help modernise a game that initially released in 2001.
The biggest news here transcends graphical reworking and additional features; it’s that Halo, the series at the very core of Xbox, is finally crossing the divide. Seeing Marcus Fenix on a PlayStation when Gears of War: Reloaded dropped earlier this year was crazy enough, but Master Chief is Xbox, so it will be absolutely wild to play through the original game using a DualSense controller. We truly live in different times.
We don’t have a specific release date yet, but we know that Campaign Evolved is coming in 2026.
