So, Mortal Kombat 11’s DLC plans had confirmed Shang Tsung a long while ago – and an official tweet from the Mortal Kombat twitter today gives us a glorious look at the Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa-inspired fighter:

Shang Tsung as a character is well known for morphing into other fighters as part of his gimmick, literally transforming mid-fight into a completely different dude (or dudette) from the roster to mix up the onslaught and keep you guessing.
So tell me, whats with the morphing background colours behind ol’ mate Shanga?
They do seem a little closely related to 4 ninjas that are well known the the Mortal Kombat roster – in order, Rain (purple), Reptile (green), Ermac (red) and Smoke (gray).
All of these characters are missing in Mortal Kombat 11 – with many fans desperately asking Ed Boon for them to be re-added.
So, what if Shang Tsung will be able to morph into these guys? Even as a pared back, general version of the character with their signature moves? And what makes me think this may be a possibility?
Another tweet from Ed Boon, today:

It’s easy to say that the above image just shows a purple Sub Zero fighting Raiden, but when you look closer the skin does seem a little different compared to existing MK11 skins – as well as a combat stance that is bit different also. Both MKX and Injustice 2 had their own methods of employing multi-characters on the roster, with Triborg and the Ninja Turtles respectively.
Either I am right, and it’s awesome – or I am wrong and I just enjoyed writing this speculation out as I drank too deep from the Kool Aid.
Let’s find out together! BRING ON THE DLC!
