Hearthstone’s Latest Expansion Gives It A Distinct Whodunnit Flavour

Colonel Mustard, In the library, with an …arcanite reaper?

Ever feel like your digital card game experience was lacking a murder mystery? Well Murder at Castle Nathria, the next expansion for Hearthstone, may have your oddly specific itch taken care of.

A MURKY MURDER MYSTERY! Grab your magnifying glass and detective cap because this August 2nd, Hearthstone players will be embroiled in a mystery! With Murder at Castle Nathria, the next expansion for Blizzard Entertainment’s wildly sensational card game, Sire Denathrius—former leader of Revendreth—has invited his enemies as guests to his Castle for an elegant dinner soiree. The evening is going swimmingly… until suddenly, the Sire himself is murdered!

For those that played the World of Warcraft: Shadowlands expansion, you’d likely agree that Sire Denathrius was an absolutely high-point. The smarmy Master of Revendreth was full of personality and charm – providing a fantastic crescendo end encounter as the final boss of the Castle Nathria raid.

Seeing him return in Hearthstone, to have his very own Cluedo-inspired mystery expansion is an absolute gas.

As with all Hearthstone expansion, there is a range of new toys and gimmicks to play with – to name just a few:

  • A Line-up of Legendary Suspects. Find out the secrets of ten new legendary suspects! With one per class, there won’t be any shortage of potential motives to unearth. Additionally, every player will be awarded Prince Renathal upon login, a neutral Legendary who will give your hero ten more health and adds ten more cards in your deck for a total of 40 HP and cards!. Extra help like that is simply elementary!
  • New Card Type: Locations. For the first time ever, specific locations can now be represented in game! Locations are playable just like minions, only as advantageous buffs instead. Drop them onto the board and activate the effects wisely, keeping careful watch on the one-turn cooldown and diminishing durability to execute your strategy.
  • New Keyword: Infuse. Anima, the soul resource of the Shadowlands, is here to Infuse your gameplay. Cards with this keyword will drink in the lost anima when a friendly minion dies and transform into mightier versions of themselves. Hold these cards in your hand until they’re fully infused—the transformation comes with completely new artwork!

The Infuse card effect sounds particularly fun – and the shifting artwork is a neat feature, just take a look at this Priest of the Deceased before and after he has had a feed:

With 135 brand new cards and some familiar Shadowlands faces taking the form of new Legendary Suspects, you’ll need to track down the killer and perhaps save the dinner from total ruin.

Good thing Murloc Holmes is here to lend a hand.
