Here’s Our First Proper Look At Magic: The Gathering’s Final Fantasy Crossover

My Cactuar is certainly Jumbo-ed

After a small tease late last year, Wizards of the Coast and Square Enix have finally lifted the lid on one of Magic: The Gathering‘s most highly-anticipated crossover releases—Final Fantasy.

Due to release on June 13th, the MtG x Final Fantasy set will cover the entire history of the mainline Final Fantasy games, with cards depicting memorable moments, beloved characters and iconic elements from the JRPG behemoth.

This reveal gives us our very first card previews from the set, including the four Commander decks and their relevant feature cards. These include Terra from Final Fantasy VI, Cloud from Final Fantasy VII, Tidus from Final Fantasy X and Y’Shtola from Final Fantasy XIV.

We also get a look at two Jumbo Cactuar card variants—and if you know me and my tattoos you know I wept at this point in the video—as well as cards for FFX’s Sin, a Tonberry, Stiltzkin the recurring Moogle Merchant and even Sazh’s Chocobo from Final Fantasy XIII.

There are previews of some neat Double Faced cards, which can show two sides/forms of a particular character or creature, with the examples used including Garland, Knight of Cornelia which flips to become Chaos, The Endless, and Cecil, Dark Knight becoming Cecil, Redeemed Paladin (spoilers!).

Longtime fans will be super-jazzed to see some of the alternate prints of cards coming to the set, which feature art from veteran Final Fantasy artists like Tetsuya Nomura and Yoshitaka Amano.

There’s plenty more to go through beyond, like Side Quests and Summons, so check out the full reveal video below:

Magic: The Gathering — Final Fantasy will release with Commander Decks (and Collectors Commander Decks), a Starter Kit, Bundles (and Gift Bundles), Play Boosters and Collector Boosters, all of which are available to pre-order now through local retailers and Amazon (but support your local!)

And as if that’s not enough, more will be revealed soon about some upcoming Secret Lair drops and a mysterious “holiday release.”
