While many Xbox-backed games have been thrown out the window of late, the mysterious title OD doesn’t appear to be on the same chopping block…yet.
A report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, published today, revealed that Contraband, the co-op game that Avalanche Studios was developing, has been cancelled four years after its announcement.
Many were left wondering what this could mean for other titles that have been similarly silent, with one garnering more conversation than others. Schreier returned to the story with an update posted to his personal Bluesky account, claiming that OD, the game spawned from the partnership between Xbox and Kojima Productions, is still in active development.
OD, the collaboration between Xbox and Hideo Kojima, is still in development, a Microsoft spokesperson tells me.

The partnership between Kojima Productions and Xbox was announced in late 2022, but our first glimpse of OD didn’t come until the criminally long presentation that was The Game Awards 2023. A teaser, by very definition, this short trailer reveals various cast members attached to the project, with facial renders of those actors spouting surreal lines backed by a black void. Since then, it’s been radio silence for OD, outside of a few interviews that involved Kojima effectively saying, “yep, we’re still working on it,” so it’s fair for folks to be concerned about its status.

While the update is as brief as that, Schreier cites a Microsoft spokesperson as his source. This is comforting in the immediate sense for Kojima fans, but it’s far from a rock-solid promise that OD will see the light of day. Many pundits will say that cancelling a Hideo Kojima title would be out of the question for Xbox; however, I would wager that the recent spate of cancellations and closures, least of all Perfect Dark, should prove that nothing is safe.
