Last night’s leak and subsequent announcement of the long-awaited Spyro remasters set Playstation fans alight with excitement…then promptly to the salt mines when an Xbox One port was announced alongside it. Nintendo users (myself included) were also deeply upset by the lack of an official Switch version. Well, wipe those tears from your eyes! Maybe.
A few hours ago, the official Nintendo UK website put up a listing for a “Spyro Remastered Trilogy”. Hey, they gave it a go. It’s since been removed, but you can check out a screencap of it here. This could all be down to a trigger-happy employee getting ahead of themselves, but a facebook message with a Nintendo UK support representative could prove to be the smoking gun (if it’s real and not a ruse cruise). The developer of the Reignited Trilogy, Toys For Bob, is also behind the Switch version of the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, which could mean that Spyro on a Nintendo console is closer than we think.
But a question springs to mind. If a Switch port of the Reignited Trilogy is indeed in the works, why not announce it alongside the PS4 and Xbone versions? A couple of possibilities here:
- Nintendo is keeping mum about it until their next ‘Nintendo Direct’ presentation. Almost all of Nintendo’s software and hardware announcements are made through them, so this theory makes more sense. There isn’t one on the horizon, unfortunately.
- The port is getting polished at a rate that’s behind the other versions, despite the Switch apparently being easy to develop for. The N.Sane Trilogy’s non-PS4 ports did take a year after the PS4 one to arrive, but this is probably down to exclusivity deals with Sony and not deadline limitations.
