Following on from a user’s Mario creation being taken off Dreams by Sony because it contained copyrighted material, Sony has confirmed that more removals are going to take place going forward.
Giving an official statement to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony had this to say:
Sony Interactive Entertainment is notifying the affected users that an IP Infringement Notice has been received from Nintendo and that the content will be removed. We cannot comment on volume of content to be removed, this is done on an individual case by case basis.
So it’s likely that you’ll need to wave goodbye to your favourite Super Mario Sunshine recreation on the Dreamverse as it won’t be there for much longer. Though this is undoubtedly a shame, it was always likely to happen when copyrighted assets and likeness from other companies are involved.
What do you think of this news? Do you think this is an unnecessary action by Nintendo? Or is it fair play? Let us know.
Shoutout to both GamesIndustry.biz and NintendoLife
