May also contain traces of time travel.
Revealed as part of the 2018 Game Awards, Netherrealm Studios head Ed Boon graced the stage to reveal the next generation of gratuitous violence – Mortal Kombat 11.
The Youtube description of the video gives the excited fanbase (read: me) some insight into what to expect:
The all new Custom Character Variations give you unprecedented control to customise the fighters and make them your own. The new graphics engine showcasing every skull-shattering, eye-popping moment, brings you so close to the fight you can feel it. And featuring a roster of new and returning Klassic Fighters, Mortal Kombat’s best in class cinematic story mode continues the epic saga over 25 years in the making.
As for story-line (yes, some of us do enjoy the Mortal Kombat narrative, goofy as it may be) viewers are left in the dark as to whether the avenging of modern Scorpions death by classic Scorpion is some clue as to how they may address the death of many klassic fighters from the previous games – as Netherrealm has no bones about the wholesale killing of character. Some magic time travel shenanigans may be a good explanation as to how the retro characters have come to fight corrupted Raiden, god of thunder.
Also the choice of music for the trailer is horrendous.
Mortal Kombat 11 Launches Globally April 23.
