October’s PlayStation Plus Lineup Have Been Revealed And It’s A Strange Duo

Another odd-couple month

Today is the first day of a new month, meaning new PlayStation Plus games are arriving soon. September’s lineup brought us Street Fighter V and Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, which might seem like a bit of an odd pairing, but it was a welcome one all the same.

October’s free offerings for PS Plus subscribers just got announced over on the PlayStation Blog and it’s another month containing two very different titles. From October 6 PS Plus members will be able to hit the streets in Need for Speed: Payback and get bitey with Vampyr.

The Need for Speed series doesn’t really need an introduction at this point, it’s part of the gaming furniture, but Payback might. Something of a black sheep in the NFS franchise, Payback didn’t get a sterling critical reception (we gave it a 5), with its focus on a cheesy story doing a lot to detract from fans of the series. Nevertheless, if you’re after a racing game to speed around in for a while you could certainly do worse as the driving mechanics are pretty sound.

It wouldn’t be right if this month’s PS Plus offerings didn’t include some horror, it is the spooky season after all. In Vampyr (which we gave a 7.5) however, you’re not the one being hunted by an evil force, you are the evil force. Playing as doctor turned vampire Johnathon Reid, you’ll be skulking around an early 20th century London, biting necks and fighting other supernatural beasts.

If you still haven’t downloaded Street Fighter V and PUBG (or added them to your library) you have until October 5 to do so.

Are you keen on these two games? What would you like to see in November’s lineup? Let us know.
