Oculus Rift Will Set You Back $600USD

Can you hear that? Just your wallet crying

The first consumer model of the Oculus Rift will slam the wallet with a casual $599US the VR company announced today while opening up preorders for their highly anticipated VR headset. This isn’t exactly the most user friendly amount to be charging considering other heavyweights like Sony with its own Morpheus VR was looking to be around the $300 – $400 price point (and is equally impressive for console), but the company has its reasons to be charging this much, apparently anyway.

Being skeptical, this would mean buying a unit in Australia would be nearly $900 right now. Hooray!

Oculus says the Rift is expected to ship in March. A purchase will also net you an Xbox One controller and two games that you kinda need a high end PC to play, Lucky’s Tale and EVE Valkyrie.
