Oddworld: Soulstorm Getting A Release Date “Very Soon” Says Series Creator

Is it 2020 though?

I’ve been a fan of the Oddworld series since it first hit the scene on the PS1 with Abe’s Odyssey back in 1997, so when Oddworld: Soulstorm was announced back in 2016 I was super excited. Since then I have been waiting patiently, with the game suffering delay after delay, with the release date going from 2017 to 2019, then to early 2020, and now here we are, September 2020 and we still don’t have a release date. Carn. Thankfully, old mate Lorne Lanning (game director) revealed in a blog post that the team at Oddworld Inhabitants look forward to sharing a release date “very, very soon.” I’ve been crossing my fingers that Soulstorm would be a next-gen launch title, and Lorne’s comments give me a smidgen of hope that it’s still possible.

Oddworld: Soulstorm was shown off during yesterday’s PS5 Showcase, with the gameplay video giving player’s a further look at Abe’s fight for freedom for the Mudokons. Lanning says that “The stakes are higher, the threat is greater, and the obstacles are more devious,” with the footage showing the villainous Molluck in relentless pursuit of Abe. Lanning also reveals some of the features that players can expect with the PS5’s DualSense controller:

The DualSense controller allows you to experience the palpitations of Abe’s heart as he tries to save his followers in the face of overwhelming forces armed with superior fire power. As Abe struggles, the ingenious adaptive triggers offer resistance, making the struggle feel more real.

Everything about the game sounds great and I am super keen to play it – I just hope it’s sooner rather than later.

Oddworld: Soulstorm will release on PS5, PS4 and PC via Epic Games Store (hopefully) in 2020.
