Overwatch 2 has welcomed the Season 19 Mid-Season update – ushering in the latter half of content for this particular incarnation of the live-service shooter experience.
New skins, an upcoming playtest of hero 45, an evolving game-mode – and a turbo premium Cyberpunk skin offering for Junkrat, the explosion-addicted Aussie whack job.
And it does look quite nice:

His new neon-duds look absolutely razor sharp – decking the diabolical dipstick in an amazing collared jacket and turning all his metal doodads into sharp and savage looking cyber-blades. It’s a great look. It even comes in ORANGE, my favourite colour.
SO what’s the beef here?
Apart from explosions, one of Junkrat’s most recognizable features is his unbelievably expressive face. The guy has a mug that devours the camera, pushing all sorts of incredibly emotive wide-eyed grins, sinister snickers, and cackling craziness.
Yet, the Mythic skin, at its top level of prestige, hides it entirely.

Like all recent Mythic skins, unlocking further tiers of customisation ratchets up the effects and trimming of the look. And at max tier, when Junkrat inherits all manner of cyber-glowy goodness, a holographic cyber-grin covers his frenetic facial features.
In screenshots, I found myself wondering if it was a dynamic effect – flickering into being depending on what the doofus was up to. Detonating one of his mines? Capturing someone in his (now tongued) snare? Maybe just the simple act of dealing explosive damage would cause this grainy, ghostly grin to appear.
But nah, it is just there. While I admit it is a cool in a vacuum, I am not sure I want it all the time. Which is one of the fortunate things about Mythic skins having their customisation options – I can just turn off the extra glowy shit and enjoy the orange jacket and regular leer of Jamison Fawkes.
What do you think of Junkrat’s Mythic Skin offering? Worth the Prisms? Tell us all about it in the comments or on social media.
