Overwatch 2’s One Punch Man Collab Fixes Kiriko’s Goofiness By Giving Her Some BBE

Might be just what she needed

For those out of the know, and perhaps aren’t down with “the lingo” as the young folk say, “BBE” stands for Bad B*tch Energy.

Which is just oozing out of the upcoming Terrible Tornado cosplay skin for Kiriko – just look at that victory pose!

In an interview with Xbox Wire, Overwatch 2 Art Director and master of all things visual, Dion Rogers explained how we reached this amazing mashup:

“You know, Overwatch’s art style is kind of a marriage of West-meets-East aesthetics and values – there’s a bit of an anime look to Overwatch. So, being fans of anime, we were looking for a partner to collaborate with. And we looked at various studios, and then when One-Punch Man came up, it was surprising how many people on the team knew the anime, they loved it, they watched it. Aaron Keller, our game director totally knows all the characters and things backwards and forwards.

“So it was pretty surprising. We felt like that’s a great one because the team would be very excited by this idea – because the team knew the anime so well, and they were so excited, it’s at that point that it really felt like the right fit.”

Which leaves me wondering, what other things might be a great fit?

Doomfist makes perfect sense to receive the iconic One Punch Man skin – so what lead to them making Kiriko the next cast member?

“Kiriko – on top of needing some more skins, because she’s a newer hero in the game – she fits the silhouette of [Terrible Tornado] pretty well. So it just felt like a natural choice – we could do her hairstyle, but a lot of Kiriko’s base silhouette comes from her skirt, the little kind of angled parts on her clothing. So we could keep that look while capturing [Terrible Tornado] in kind of cosplay form.”

In a game as frenetic as Overwatch 2, the sanctity of silhouettes makes perfect sense to me. Though, I would like to see Torbjörn rocking that dress with his stocky legs.

The One Punch Man Collaboration Event will take place between March 7 and April 6, providing access to a range of cosmetic items that celebrate the Anime – including a Legendary skin that’s earnable via themed challenges. Sadly you’ll need to open your wallet if you want to don the signature yellow of Saitama himself, as is the case with Kiriko above.

Are you a fan of One Punch Man? How do you like Kiriko with a bit more attitude? Let us know in the comments or on social media!
