Payday 3 Will Launch With Eight Heists; Game Director Hints At “Interesting” Collaborations

Eight is only the beginning

Payday 3 will launch with eight heist locations and may include future collaborations, the game’s interim director Per Storløkken has confirmed to WellPlayed during a recent interview.

From my hands-on time with Payday 3, I was able to play two locations: Secure Capital Bank and Surphaze Art Gallery. The other six locations are unknown at this point, however I’d imagine we’ll see a large-scale bank heist included. New York has such an iconic collection of buildings that would make excellent heist locations. When asked if the team were planning to utilise any famous real locations in New York, Storløkken said there were legal challenges involved with doing so, however, he did say that the team “might be doing things like that.”

In comparison, Payday 2 had 12 different heists on release, with locations including a nightclub, shopping mall, and penthouse apartment. Payday 2 has gone on to receive 77 heists since it launched in August 2013, with only a small number of those making their way to consoles. Thankfully, with Starbreeze Studios’ using Unreal Engine 4 for Payday 3’s development, consoles and PC will receive all future DLC on the same date.

Furthermore, Storløkken confirmed that the Safe House will be returning to Payday 3 but won’t be available at launch.

On the topic of collaborations, Storløkken, while not able to provide any specifics, did say that “there are certain collaborations that if they come, are in the right direction, would be very interesting,” when I asked if the team would be collaborating with celebrities, movie characters or YouTubers.

Payday 2 was no stranger to collaborations, partnering with John WickYakuza, Scarface, DJ Alesso, and more to bring content including playable characters, heists and cosmetic items to the game.
