Perfect Dark Finally Steps Into The Light With Its First Gameplay Trailer

Is it looking AAAA?

Developer The Initiative has, at long last, given us our first look at gameplay for Perfect Dark.

Dropping in the middle of this Morning’s Xbox Games Showcase, we finally got a glimpse at gameplay from Xbox’s self-proclaimed AAAA title from The Initiative and Crystal Dynamics. Clocking in at around three and a half minutes, the gameplay shows Joanna Dark infiltrating a safe house that’s thought to be housing Daniel Carrington, the world’s most wanted criminal. The gameplay is centred around a few core components, those being the game’s stealth mechanics, parkour movement and combat.

Using an array of gadgets, we see Joanna hacking terminals, mimicking voices, and generally being a badarse super spy. After making her way past a few guards, she’s also shown to have unreal cardio as she climbs, wall runs, and leaps her way onto the target’s balcony. Once in the building, we get a look at Perfect Dark’s combat, which is a mix of gunplay, close-quarters melee and use of the environment.

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen or heard anything from Perfect Dark, and, as it was announced all the way back at The Game Awards 2020, we were long overdue for a look at the game, but this trailer looked awfully…manufactured. That might sound immensely stupid, but the highly scripted feel of the gameplay makes me wonder if it actually reflects what the end product will be. In any case, I’m glad Perfect Dark was shown here.

Perfect Dark will hopefully be released on an Xbox console at some point in the future.
