Phantom Blade Zero Brings Chinese Action Franchise To The West

We all wear masks…

Chinese developer S-Frame has today announced its new PlayStation 5 exclusive action title, Phantom Blade Zero. The news came with an extensive narrative and gameplay trailer during the PlayStation Showcase event and marks the first time the developer has brought one of its hugely popular action titles to the West. A spiritual successor and “rebirth” of S-Frame’s Rainblood franchise, a largely mobile-focused series that has amassed over 20 million players, Phantom Blade Zero is being billed as the game the creators always envisioned with the franchise and so far it’s looking suitable epic.

The game is set to feature a semi-open world with large explorable zones filled with harsh combat, fantasy elements and a healthy dose of Chinese-inspired mythology. The trailer teases the core concept of only having 66 days to live and wonders how our protagonist will handle this fate while dealing with hordes of masked foes. It just looks sick, check it out for yourself below:

“In Phantom Blade Zero, you play as Soul, an elite assassin serving an elusive but powerful organization known simply as “The Order.” Soul is framed for the murder of The Order’s patriarch, gravely injured in the ensuing manhunt, and, though his life is saved by a mystic healer, the makeshift cure will only last for 66 days.” said S-Game via the PlayStation Blog, “Now, he must fight against powerful foes and inhuman monstrosities, all while seeking out the mastermind behind it all before his time runs out.”
