PlayStation has tonight announced PlayStation Stars, a new free loyalty program launching later this year that will see players earn points that can be redeemed for rewards such as PSN credit, games and digital collectibles.
Announced via the PlayStation Blog, PlayStation’s Vice President, Network Advertising, Loyalty & Licensed Merchandise Grace Chen shared details about the new program. Chen writes that players will earn points by “completing a variety of campaigns and activities,” and that some will be as simple as a monthly check-in that requires you to play any game, while others might ask you to “win tournaments, earn specific trophies, or even be the first player to platinum a blockbuster title in your local time zone.” Furthermore, PlayStation Plus subscribers will earn points from any purchases made on the PlayStation Store.
While players will be able to cash in their points and treat themselves to items such as PSN credit and PlayStation Store items, they’ll also be able to redeem digital collectibles. Chen says that these digital collectibles “are digital representations of things that PlayStation fans enjoy, including figurines of beloved and iconic characters from games and other forms of entertainment, as well as cherished devices that tap into Sony’s history of innovation.”
No launch information was provided, only that it will launch later this year. All in all, the PlayStation Stars program sounds like a great idea for players to earn rewards.
