Pokemon Direct Recap – Pokemon Sword And Shield Are Receiving Expansion Passes Later This Year

More Adventures In Galar Ahead

The Pokemon Company announced that they would be giving the first Direct of 2020. Here is a recap of the key details:
Firstly a flashback to 2006: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is back! Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX, a remake of the original Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance games (which were arguably the best) with a new 3D art style. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX will release exclusively on Nintendo Switch on March 6 2020 with a demo available later today.

Now were hearing about Sword and Shield related information. Here’s a surprise we are getting an expansion pass instead of a new game in the same region as done in the past. You will be able to continue on from your original save. The Pokemon Sword or Shield Expansion Pass will include The Isle of Armor (Part 1) and The Crown Tundra (Part 2). The Isle of Armor is slated for release in June 2020 with The Crown Tundra slated for Fall 2020.

The Isle of Armor (Theme of Growth): Set on a giant island in the Galar region we get mentored by Dojo Master Mustard. A new Pokemon Kubfu, a fighting type Pokemon, is key to this expansion and evolves into Urshifu which can Gigantamax and has version exclusive forms. This part is also bringing back Apricorns (make your own Pokeballs yay), tutor moves, lots of new fashion choices, an EXP charm and even change your bike’s appearance.

The Crown Tundra (Theme of Exploration): Set in the frozen Crown Tundra this story centers around a new grass psychic type legendary Pokemon called Calyrex. There will be lots of interesting places to explore. There will be new co-op underground raids which are full of Legendaries from past games. The Regi’s are returning with a bunch of new or possibly Galarian form Legendaries. There will be even more fashion and a battle challenge after you finish everything.

Both regions are essentially giant wild areas! In this expansion they will be adding more than 200+ Pokemon. Check out the new Pokemon here. There will also be free updates to allow people with out the expansion to receive the new Pokemon and more. The Galarian starters are also receiving Gigantamax Forms with the expansion.

Pokemon Home is launching in February with more details to come.

Starting today Gigantamax Coalossal, Lapras and Flapple/Appletun raids will be more common. There will be an update sometime today after which you can meet the rivals from the Isle of Armor at Wedgehurst Station and have the chance to catch the a new Galarian Slowpoke already! You wont be able to evolve it though until the expansions come out.

The Sword or Shield Expansion Pass which gives you both parts of the DLC for one title will cost $45.00 AUD each ($29.99USD). If you purchase the Pass you also receive cute Pikachu and Eevee uniforms straight away. NOTE: Both Passes offer version exclusive Pokemon and characters.

Wowza. That was more than I think we were expecting.

Pre-order the Expansion Pass on your Nintendo Switch so that you can experience these new adventures later this year.

Check out the Direct below if you haven’t seen it yet, there is a lot of awesome concept art:
