Red Dead Redemption Is Coming To PS4 And Switch This Month

John Marston rides again

Rockstar Games has announced that its beloved cowboy action game, Red Dead Redemption, and the Undead Nightmare expansion will be releasing on PS4 and Switch on August 17.

Will rumours of a remaster have been circulating for a while, I’m not anyone would’ve been putting money on how this has panned out. The port, handled by Double Eleven Studios, won’t be receiving any significant updates or refinements outside of your general spit and polish to allow the game to run on more modern hardware, however, it will still allow those with a PS4 or Switch to go back and play one of the games that defined the PS3/Xbox 360 era.

Better still, those who purchase the PS4 version will also be able to play the game on a PS5 via backwards compatibility. So far, so good, but the kicker comes with the price. The digital version of this port will run you $49.99 US, which converts to around $75 AUD. While it’s undoubtedly a classic, the original Red Dead was released back in 2010, and this seems to be a fairly straightforward port, so the asking price seems a little steep if you ask me.

If you’re hoping to get your hands on a physical copy of the game, you’re in luck. The announcement made on the Rockstar website also confirmed that a physical version of the game will be available to purchase on October 13.

If you’re wondering why Xbox isn’t getting any love, it’s because the game is already available for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S via the platform’s excellent backwards compatibility.

Clearly, we love the original, but we may have loved the sequel even more, saying in our review that “A big, bold Western epic that takes lessons learned from Rockstar’s entire history and combines them with a newfound appreciation for pacing and subtlety.” We gave Red Dead Redemption 2 a 9.5.
