Redfall’s Gameplay Reveal Trailer Highlights Co-Op Gameplay And Character Abilities

Well this raises the stakes

The first gameplay trailer for Arkane Austin’s Redfall was shown this morning during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase.

Opening the showcase, the 5-minute gameplay reveal trailer gave us our first proper look at the first-person shooter in action. Beginning with an atmospheric crawl through an abandoned church, it wasn’t long before the player encountered a number of nasty vampires in an enclosed space. Luckily, the player’s co-op partner showed up to help blast away the bloodsuckers. The church location itself is very moody and cool and the early gunplay looks fairly solid.

Leaving the church, we get a brief overview of the game’s location in Redfall, Massachusetts and its new, toothy inhabitants, before jumping back into the action. During the next stretch of gameplay, we get introduced to the game’s playable characters. Jacob Boyer is able to cloak themselves and become invisible, Remi De La Rosa has a robotic companion that lends a hand in a fight, Devinder Crousley uses a staff to temporarily freeze enemies in place and Layal Ellison uses telekinetic powers to block incoming damage and launch herself and her teammates into the air to gain an advantage.

The minute-to-minute gameplay is very reminiscent of games like Left 4 Dead, with enemies attacking the group in waves that become increasingly more difficult, but it’s also set in an open world, so that spices things up a bit. The co-op aspect, fun-looking weapons and character abilities have raised my interest, so I’m keen to see more.
