Revolution Software Will Announce Its New Projects In 2023 – Could One Be Broken Sword 6?

Standing on the edge of a Revolution announcement

It’s late at night and I should be writing a review but instead I’m procrastinating (as usual), faffing about on YouTube watching videos I won’t even remember in the morning. I peruse my subbed channels list and I notice I have an unwatched video from Revolution Software titled Revolution Software Christmas Video 2022. I’m somewhat disappointed as it was published four weeks ago but it’s only 93 seconds long so I’ve got nothing to lose.

I watch and listen as Charles Cecil irons a shirt while narrating the video as a short gag plays out before he reels off several things he and the team are looking forward to discussing at their Christmas party. It’s the last item he mentions that pricks up my ears.

“And our own new projects are going really well. I can’t wait to talk about them publicly in 2023, I’m sure that people will be really excited when we do.”

On the surface it doesn’t sound like much of an admission but dive into the comments and you’ll see one that reads “Merry Christmas to you all! BS6 announcement 2023 I sense ;),” to which Revolution replies “Merry Christmas, and whatever the next year brings, one thing we know is that it’s worth being excited about :).” Now I may be simply reading into it too much, but to me, it comes across as a subtle hint that the team is working on Broken Sword 6. As someone who grew up playing the Broken Sword games, that’s what I am hoping.

It’ll be 10 years this December since the last Broken Sword release – Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse, and since then the studio has released Beyond a Steel Sky. While the studio has kept its cards close to its chest in regard to its next project, Cecil has mentioned several times that the team has been working on ideas for Broken Sword 6. It makes sense for the studio to work on Broken Sword 6 – the fanbase has been patiently waiting for George and Nico’s next adventure.

But what’s more exciting is that Cecil says the words projects and them, meaning the studio is working on multiple projects, making me even more confident that one of them is Broken Sword 6.

Whatever the projects are, I can’t wait to hear about them this year.
