New game releases are great, but the business end of the year is getting a bit ridiculous. It’s nice, then, to have a new release game grace the PlayStation Plus line-up this month, killing two birds with one Snitch. That will make sense in a minute; leave it with me. LEGO shenanigans, my first horror game, and a beautiful RPG rounded out last month’s offerings, but this time around, we have fantasy, sports, and fantasy sports.
As announced on the PlayStation Blog, September’s PlayStation Plus Essentials games are Quidditch Champions, MLB The Show 24 and Little Nightmares II. These three games will be available for download from September 3.
It’s probably not fair to call Quidditch a fantasy sport because some folks play a Muggle version in real life, but it’s weird, so let’s stick to the digital version. Quidditch Champions has you grabbing a broom and taking to the skies to score goals, smashing away Bludgers and chasing the Golden Snitch. The game features a single-player career mode and an online competitive mode, where you can play as well-known characters from the Harry Potter world or create your own witch or wizard to fly about as. This is a day one inclusion, so there will be a baked-in player base, so get in early before everyone gets way too good at it.
Now, I have been to an MLB game, but my lasting memory is based on the peanuts and hotdogs I inhaled. Yes, they were delicious, but no one wants to hear about that. Baseball fans will be well acquainted with The Show, as it’s been the premiere hitting, catching and running video game for years. This entry features plenty of ways to approach the plate as current-day players as well as legends from the past.
If you’re a fan of games with a thick atmosphere and a spooky vibe, it’s all too easy to recommend the Little Nightmares games. The original focuses solely on the raincoat-wearing girl, Six, as she explores a huge, grotesque ship. This sequel introduces Mono, a paper-bagged boy who joins Six to wander through an enormous, overbearing city while a mysterious and ominous figure pursues them. Little Nightmares introduced us to a wonderfully macabre world, and the follow-up builds on that in some wonderful ways, so get around it. We gave Little Nightmares II an 8.5.
If you haven’t downloaded Star Wars LEGO, The Skywalker Saga, Five Nights at Freddy’s Security Breach, and Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights, you’ve got until September 2 to do so. As always, please remember that you can add these games to your library and download them later if you don’t have any precious space on your hard drive.
Which game will you be downloading first? What games would you like to see in October? Let us know in the comments or on our social media.
