Space Marine 2’s Community Update Casually Drops A New Class Is Coming

A new friend to face fearsome foes with

The March Community Update for Space Marine 2 has gone live on their Focus Together forum, giving a platform for the development team to share a look at stuff that is coming – but also, how things are currently going.

Surprising no-one, the first cab off the rank – carrying the elephant in the room – is a quick address of the Space Marine 3 news.

In case you missed it, there was a random (and succinct) announcement that the next Space Marine game was official starting development. That was it, the whole announcement. Yes, a Space Marine 3 will exist.

Of course, people were concerned – thinking that this news was actually an announcement that continued development of Space Marine 2 would cease.

Well, a little note from the team:

Mid-March, we announced that Space Marine 3 had begun development and we’re excited to see your enthusiasm, although we hear those of you who fear for Space Marine 2 and its future support.

So let us set the record straight: Space Marine 3 does not mean the end of Space Marine 2’s development. Far from it. No teams are shifting over, no one is abandoning the game, and our plans to bring more awesome content to Space Marine 2 remain. We are working on much more content and surprises for the months to come, such as a new class, more operations, melee weapons, and more! Trust us, there are surprises even dataminers haven’t found out about 🙂

This announcement simply marks the genesis of a new project, years away from release. We’ve made a decision and have just started the process.

Many of you were very excited for this project and this makes us incredibly happy and motivated. Thank you for the unwavering support.

That being said, we still have a lot to offer to the players with Space Marine 2.

So rest easy, warriors of the imperium. The lifespan of Space Marine 2 will be long and glorious – after all, it will now serve as the vessel to keep people entertained while waiting for Space Marine 3.

But hey, what is that little tidbit in that second paragraph?!? People were quick to notice:

A proper confirmation that a new class will be added to the game. Awesome.

The developers had been a little coy around such a detail, with our own interview with Creative Director Oliver Hollis-Leick simply underlining the fact that “we have added classes to our games in the past.”

Now there is no further information at this time, just the exciting news that yes it will happen – so let’s pivot to the rest of the actual news from the post.

A whole slew of new content is coming to the game Mid-April – for me, a long time supporter of the Space Wolves chapter of Warhammer 40,000, I need to accept that this monstrosity will become available:

It has been a long suffering gag within the Warhammer 40k community that there is a very clear distinction between “cool wolf iconography” and “going too far”, and brother, having a big metallic wolf head is going too far.

But, there are those that actually like this helmet design. All the power in the world to them.

Besides weird wolf helmets there will also be a new Operations mission in the form of “Exfiltration” – which comes with another monstrous boss for your fire team to defeat.

“Exfiltration” takes place on Avarax. Your mission is to exfiltrate a Tech-Priest occupying an Adeptus Mechanicus facility on the planet. However, you’ll have to cross a Trygon territory to reach the facility. You’ll have to deal with the relentless assaults of the creature to complete your mission.

The Trygon is a giant Tyranid creature that can burrow itself in the ground and carve underground tunnels that can be used by smaller Tyranids to bypass the defense lines and coordinate surprise attacks.

What is a Trygon, you may ask? Take a look at the feature image of this article dear reader. It’s a very big, very angry snake boi.

I can’t wait to slap it around.

The update will also bring some fun adjustments to what classes can use what weapons – so make sure to check your sidearm before embarking on a mission, you may have access to new toys.

So keep an eye out for Patch 7.0 – the Trygon Update sometime ‘mid-April’ on all platforms. For the Emperor, etc etc.

Are you a fan of big metal wolf heads? Me either. Tell us all about it in the comments or on our social media.
