Sifu launched earlier this week to mostly critical acclaim – our very own Adam Ryan scored it a 9 in his review. However, perhaps the biggest talking point surrounding the game is just how hard the game is, which has once again ignited the debate around difficulty options for games that are hard by design.
In an interview with accessibility advocate Steve Saylor, Sloclap co-founder Pierre Tarnovia stated that Sifu is getting a handful of new accessibility features including better captions and a high contrast mode on PlayStation consoles. Tarno also said that the studio is looking at introducing difficulty options to allow players of all skill levels to enjoy the game and that the studio will have something to announce soon.
Hey! So it's weird I get to help break news but yes #Sifu is getting #accessibility updates post-launch.
– Better captions
– High Contrast Mode on PS4/5 (was on PC, but not PS4/5 at launch due to a bug)
– Difficulty Modes. Both easier & harder, similar to Metroid Dread's update. https://t.co/9pFTOmfvnR— Steve Saylor (@stevesaylor) February 11, 2022
Even though Sifu is designed to challenge players, it’s great to see that Sloclap is looking at making the game more accessible for players. But with Elden Ring‘s release in less than two weeks, the discourse about difficulty options is likely here to stay for a while.
