Someone Is Littering World Of Warcraft Cities With Legendary Weapons

Arthas, put your toys away

By every metric, weapons ‘drop all the time’ in World of Warcraft. It’s a statement that would hardly cause a player to raise an eyebrow.

However, it’s a different story when they appear to be just dropping on the ground, in massive numbers – and they are all the legendary blade Frostmourne.

This is what has greeted many players who visited the capital city of Ogrimmar today on the Arugal WoW Classic realm today – a fine dusting of soul-destroying swords covering the earth. Many have speculated that it is an exploit where someone has managed to send a model-swap command to the server, as many of these blades seem to have replaced a plethora of dead troll corpses that used to carpet the ground.

To a degree, it’s a harmless exploit that is more entertaining than threatening – but it does raise some red flags regarding the security and stability of the World of Warcraft: Classic servers. This should not be possible, and most modern data security standards would classify this as a dangerous precursor to something far worse occurring. If anything it’s appreciated that whoever is responsible was nice enough to do something small and silly to perhaps bring Blizzard’s attention to it.

Speculative posts are already reaching the WoW Classic Forums, so if you wish to enjoy a visit to the Frostmourne appreciation station you’d best do it sooner rather than later.

For players, this is might be the closest they ever come to the blade that destroyed a kingdom – at least, until the Icecrown Citadel raid drops later this year.
