In a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Final Destination: Bloodlines filmmakers Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein have agreed to a deal with Sony Pictures as part of their newly-launched company, Wonderlab, to create ‘wildly fun, commercial, character-driven, genre-bending films’.
As part of this agreement, the pair will be tapped direct Sony’s Columbia Pictures adaptation of Metal Gear Solid.

Studio executive and producer Avi Arad is on board to produce the feature, where the brief for the film describes it’s inspiration as ‘a stealth combat game with sci-fi and spy features’.
Lipovsky and Stein have already commented on the opportunity, saying:
Metal Gear Solid was nothing short of a groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece that forever revolutionized video games. We are thrilled and honored to bring Hideo Kojima’s iconic characters and unforgettable world to life.
Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group President Sanford Panitch issued a statement detailing the partnership, saying the following:
Zach and Adam are thrilling storytellers, masters of visuals and suspense, and two of the most impressive director/producers working today, With projects across all the company’s film labels, we are so happy to create a home for them, and proud to have them as part of the Sony family.
It’s a huge bit of news for MGS fans, considering the extensive potential on offer from the franchise – but you can’t help but note the fact that Hideo Kojima is no longer directly involved with his Tactical Espionage Action baby. Checking socials, not a single comment has been shared from Kojima’s end at this time, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see no collaboration from the series creator for the films production. A bummer to be sure.
Is Kiefer Sutherland too old to be cast as Snake? Will they tap Chris Pratt to take the role? Who knows. Keep an eye out for more news on this one as it gets closer to production start.
Shoutouts to The Hollywood Reporter.
