Steamforged Games Is Teasing A New Board Game That Looks To Be An Adaptation Of A Major Video Game IP

What could ye be hiding?

Board game developer and publisher Steamforged Games has begun teasing its next project on Twitter.

The semi-cryptic Tweet exclaims, “a new adventure awaits,” followed by an emoji of a skull and crossbones flag and then the question, “But what Sea will this journey take us on?”

It’s fairly evident from these hints that this new tabletop game will have a pirate theme, but the accompanying image all but confirms that it’ll be tied to a video game IP. The Steamforged Games logo in the Tweet has the usual gold hue, but it’s backed with a map with various locations marked on it. The major landmarks of Old Faithful Isle, The Crooked Masts, Shipwreck Bay and Tri-Rock Isle all point to a board game adaptation of Sea of Thieves.

Replying to a comment on the Tweet, Steamforged has promised that we won’t need to wait long to get out answers, so we’ll keep our eyes set on the horizon, and our feet planted firmly on the deck for now.

Steamforged is known for adapting massive IPs, such as Dark Souls: The Board Game, Horizon Zero Dawn Board Game and Resident Evil 2: The Board Game, so the thought of Sea of Thieves joining that list seems likely.

The publisher/developer’s most recent partnership resulted in Elden Ring: The Board Game, which obliterated its Kickstarter goals, finishing the campaign with close to $6 million.
