Racing games are a fun genre to play with, but you must admit that the idea of on-foot competition in the space is quite often the neglected transportation method. Enter DeathSprint 66, a title that wants to get some feet back on the ground to traverse extreme obstacle courses that push the boundaries of entertainment.
Sounds like an interesting time – although you might be forgiven for thinking it was a dark and gritty reboot of Fall Guys when trying to describe it to your mates.
The premise is straight forward enough – you are a poor meat puppet putting on a show for a giant corporation by way of sprinting:
In the year 2066, the Bachman Media Network is yet again, set to dominate the world of brutal entertainment with the latest series of their headline show. DEATHSPRINT 66 sees challengers take on the role of a Clone Jockey with an endless supply of clones at their disposal to compete in the visceral velocity of DEATHSPRINT.
They mention it is an 8 player PvP on-foot race, so it will not be as simple as just being the fastest – you’ll also need to be ready to both take the lives of others and try to keep yourself healthy. With a ton of parkour options described, it sounds like it will be mechanically amazing to watch at high levels of play. Couple this with some Mario Kart-esque weapon options like proximity mines, and you are sure to put a strain on your friendships.
While the game has yet to announce a release date, there are a handful of curated screenshots on the games Steam page that are worth checking out, if only to grasp what deadly traps litter each track. Literal sawblades? Dang, that really puts the Wipeout course to shame. Ninja Warrior this aint.
