Target Canada Leaks Shadow of Mordor Sequel and Possible Release Date

“He drew a deep breath. ‘Well, I’m back,’ he said.” – J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

Earlier this morning  NeoGAF member DeathByBacklog discovered a listing on Target Canada’s website that seemingly confirmed the existence of a sequel to the highly popular Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor game. The images show that the sequel will be titled Middle-Earth: Shadow of War, along with the game’s artwork (which you can see below), and that the game will come in (at least) two flavours, a standard edition and a Gold Edition for both PS4 and Xbox One. While there may be no listing of a PC release, it is highly likely the game will be available to the Master Race.  Furthermore, the listing also gives a potential release date of August 22nd (though we know to take this date with a grain of salt, don’t we?) and a brief amount of information about the game and its features.

Go behind enemy lines to forge your army, conquer Fortresses, and dominate Mordor from within. Experience how the award-winning Nemesis System creates unique personal stories with every enemy and follower, and confront the full power of the Dark Lord Sauron and his Ringwraiths in this epic new story of Middle-earth.

The Gold Edition listing states the edition will include the following:

  • Slaughter Tribe Nemesis Expansion
  • Outlaw Tribe Nemesis Expansion
  • The Blade of Galadriel Story Expansion
  • The Desolation of Mordor Story Expansion
  • Gold War Chest
  • Over $125 in total value

In addition to this, the Gold Edition listing reveals slightly more about the game, saying that players will have the ability to “forge a new Ring of Power, conquer Fortresses in massive battles, and dominate Mordor with your personal Orc army.”

While a sequel was expected to come at some point by many, up until this point there had been no concrete evidence of its existence. This listing will surely strong arm Warner Bros. and Monolith into officially announcing the sequel very soon.

Consider our jorts tightened.
