Temper You Expectations, The Last Of Us Day Will Come And Go Without Any Video Game Or TV Show Announcements This Year

People will still expect announcements, won’t they?

Naughty Dog has revealed that this year’s The Last of Us Day will not be focusing on any video game or TV series announcements or news.

The annual celebration of all things The Last of Us, which takes place on September 27 (for us here in Aus), will be in full swing in 2023, just don’t expect announcements and reveals for the things you like about the IP. Being all too aware of how out of control people’s expectations can get, Naughty Dog took to X (Twitter) with a brief message to set the tone for this year’s TLOU Day, stating clearly and concisely that “we will not be discussing any future game or TV show projects.”

Will that be enough to convince rabid fans that we won’t be getting a trailer, tease, or concept art from a new game or season two of the TV series? No chance. Instead, The Last of Us Day in 2023 will be focused on “art, merch, and more” so fans of the franchise will still be getting a little somethin’ somethin’.

Don’t get me wrong, I love to see people celebrating their favourite games and getting excited about new content, regardless of what form it takes, but this demonstrates how odd the notion of a day to celebrate a specific video game franchise is. Sure, it’s grand that there’s a day for a deluge of artwork and cosplay to be shared, but I’m just not sure if games like Mass Effect (N7 Day) and The Last of Us really need a faux public holiday, especially on years when there’s little to nothing to share.

I don’t know, maybe I’m just yelling at clouds. Enjoy your game days if that’s your thing, don’t let me harsh your mellow.

Do you look forward to The Last of Us Day? What do you think of games getting their own day to celebrate? Let us know in the comments or on our social media.
