The Fallout TV Show Has An Actual Trailer Now, And It Kinda Rules

I don’t want to set the world on fire

Video games getting high budget TV adaptations are still a rocky landscape in our modern day. Sure, we are seeing more than ever before – but there is a vast disparity in quality in some cases.

With the announcement of a Fallout TV show from Amazon studios, there was an equal mixture of excitement and concern. It seems like a property that is ripe for the picking – but obviously if someone on the creative side doesn’t “get it” then we are in for a world of sludge.

A few teasers and set images did stir the pot of excitement – But hey, we have an actual trailer now, and the outlook seems really good.

Immediately, the music choice is sublime. For all it’s grandiose world building and character driven coolness – I have always felt that the Fallout series has lived and died by it’s use of music in the modern age, and boy howdy am I pleased to hear I Don’t Want To Set The World On Fire by The Ink Spots front and centre. It is a magnificent track, and it is absolutely the thing that sank hooks into me and convinced me this trailer deserved proper attention, not just a fleeting look over coffee.

We see our naive Vault Dweller set foot into the wider world, played by the wide-eyed and always charming Ella Purnell. And sure enough, when finally interacting with the populace of the harsh outside society she gets a big ol’ laugh right in her face. Dipshits indeed.

The rest of the trailer does a fantastic job of putting some narrative portions in place – the Brotherhood of Steel are made of individuals with their own issues; they are NOT a formless mass for good, Everything and everyone in the wasteland wants something from you for better or worse, and Walton Goggins is every bit the under-appreciated acting power house I expected him to be, making a marvellous drug-loving ghoul. A particular highlight is hearing Matt Berry embody a Vault Tec Mister Handy robot – gleefully explaining that he intends to harvest our heroines organs.

The trailer has done an excellent job of uplifting my interest in the project to a proper level of excitement – and with a release date looming in early April, the wait to see how it all comes together is a short one.
