Ah, the memories of smashing crates and collecting nuts and bolts with your trusty robot partner and swingshotting to floating orbs so you can cross gaps of death. I could only be talking about one game when I mention these actions, and that game is Ratchet and Clank.
Since the release of the first game in 2002, Insomniac Game’s ‘Ratchet and Clank’ franchise has been my single most beloved video game series of all time. Over the span of a little more than a decade we have seen over twelve games in the Ratchet and Clank universe, all on PlayStation platforms. Given my love for the series, it probably won’t surprise anybody that I am seriously hyped for the upcoming Ratchet and Clank game releasing on April 12th, 2016 for the U.S. The release of the game will be supporting the animated film of the same title releasing on the 29th of April.
I had the chance to play the game at EB Expo 2015 and I was seriously impressed with it. The developers obviously love the game as much as the fans do and want to impress us and make us fall in love with it all over again. The graphics were amazing, the gameplay and the controls were superb. This instalment introduces many new weapons and gadgets to get your hands on and run amok with, but I won’t spoil them here, you’ll just have to wait and find out. This game isn’t a direct remake, rather a reimagining of the first game (which serves as inspiration for the upcoming film), so don’t tell yourself “oh, I played the original so I’ll skip this one”, as it promises to be a different experience altogether. Notably, this entry will share gameplay elements from all the other entries in the series including weapons from all the other entries after the original game in 2002.
This series is loved by many, and this new reimagining of the original game can give gamers that didn’t have the chance to play the 2002 original, a chance to experience it now and indulge themselves in the amazing world and fall in love with it just like I did fourteen years ago. My hype level for this game is way beyond 9,000, but if you’re still on the fence, watch some gameplay trailers below and I bet your hype level will exceed 9,000 also.
If you love games that are charming, fun and an all-around blast to play, make sure to pick this game up when it drops. All aboard the hype train!
