The New PlayStation App Is Launching Soon And It Has Some Great New Features

What an improvement

Being able to access your PlayStation trophies, friends list and the PlayStation store is handy, but if I’m honest, the current PlayStation App is just a bit garbage. It does the job, but it runs poorly, looks outdated and has a separate app for messaging, which is needlessly annoying. No need to cry over crappy applications though, as the new and improved PlayStation App is on its way later today.

Detailed over on the PlayStation Blog, we now have a good understanding of what we can look forward to from the updated app. Before we get into features I just want to mention how much smoother and sexier the UI is. Darker and less confusing, this would be enough of a change for me to get excited, but there’s plenty more.

First cab off the rank is the news that messages are now back in the app, hooray. No need for a separate download, no need to change between apps, it’s all in the one place once more. Another communication-related note is that the app now supports voice chat for up to 15 people. Creating a party just like you would on the PS4/5, you can now chat with your friends through the app directly.

More good news comes in the form of a native storefront that will apparently make for “fast and smooth shopping and browsing”. Once you’ve made a purchase you’ll be able to remotely begin the download on your PS4 and/or PS5. Speaking of which, once the PS5 launches you’ll be able to remotely launch games, manage storage and sign in to the console through the app. Give this short trailer a watch to get your peepers on the new-look PlayStation App:
