Remember the days when a console would gradually become cheaper during its lifespan?
Me neither.
A post via the PlayStation blog has brought forth details that “high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates” has resulted in a “tough decision to raise the recommended retail price (RRP) of the PlayStation 5 console in select markets in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Australia and New Zealand.”
These updated prices are then set to become effective as of April 14 – so thanks for the short notice, guys:

So as of right now, the cost of entry to get a PS5 console will be a lofty $830AUD.
Without the flavouring of my own personal snark, the full statement is as follows:
With a backdrop of a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates, SIE has made the tough decision to raise the recommended retail price (RRP) of the PlayStation 5 console in select markets in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Australia and New Zealand.
A curious silver lining comes in the form of an additional price change – in regards to the PS5 Disc Drive having a price decrease, from $160AUD to $125AUD.
So, there’s that I guess.
If some of this news feels a little Deja Vu’ish, it may be because we already reported as PS5 price increase back in 2022. Similarly, that decision was a difficult decision to make, given the increase was “a necessity given the current global economic environment and its impact on SIE’s business.”
So to generalise it all, the current global economic has seemingly been in the toilet since 2022. If you do not already own a PS5 console, it’s not getting any easier to own one folks.
What do you make of the PS5 price increase? Let us know in the comments or on social media.
