The Warcraft RTS Games That Started It All Have Been Remastered

And they can be played RIGHT NOW

A great surprise for people that enjoy the vintage RTS titles that helped set the stage for what the genre would become today, as Blizzard has dropped a great surprise – fully remastered versions of both Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness.

Redrawn and souped up with some modern conveniences, both titles tout some delicious improvements, including:

  • Higher unit selection count
  • Hand-redrawn sprites for all the units
  • A button to swap between OLD and NEW appearances
  • Drag-to-select

Not to mention, the resolution of the games will now be more demanding than a GameBoy Advance screen. There are genuinely people alive today that likely have no idea that the Warcraft series was rooted in the RTS genre, perhaps even thinking that titles like World of Warcraft and Hearthstone are the only ancestors of the Orc and Human conflict – nay I say! Back in my day we lived to here the words “Job’s done!”

Brilliantly, these games have also been shadow-dropped today for people to jump right in – the 30th anniversary announcement not only showcased the work of Blizzard’s RTS team, but invites you to enjoy the fruits of their labour also.

So yeah, that’s my afternoon sorted. And considering that there is the capacity for multiplayer – comp stomps, anyone?

Are you ancient enough to remember the days of Warcraft: Orcs & Humans? Keen to raise your Death Knights and ruin everyone’s day with Death and Decay? Tell us all about it in the comments or on social media.
