All the way back in May of 2022 we had some speculative discussion of a possible Master Chief Collection-type release of some treasured Gears of War titles. It’s been a hot minute since then, and on the back of all the huge gaming news from the last few days we have people asking a salient question:
Where the f%&k is it?
Thankfully, yet another cryptic tweet from @JezCorden reignites the hopes of many:

Brother Jez is a long time industry insider, with more than a few cryptic clues that have lead to a shocking reveal. He is coy with words, if only to protect what he truly knows – but at this time he has said that he has “heard some impressive things about what TC (The Coalition) is cooking up.”
Now sure, Jez might not be openly referring to any kind of collection details – apparently Gears 6 is in development – but that doesn’t change the fact that he didn’t outright say it ISN’T a collection-related bit of news. We have had tweets from people claiming that they are 100% able to say words like “it’s happening” but very little else, which would feel like cause for more celebration.
I’m currently not allowed to give much more detail than “it’s happening” at the moment (I’m working on loosening the grip) but even as someone who isn’t a big Gears fan anymore, what this is should be really awesome. Add even better adjectives for Gears fans.

The big issue is that these rumourmongers need to get some meat on these bones. With the Xbox showcase done and dusted, a prime time to announce such a thing has come and gone – so while fans are still mostly in the dark, we at least have a flickering candle of light; as details keep getting references as recently as January this year.
As mentioned in the previous article, the benefit of having a Gears-collection set on modern hardware is that specific franchise entries would be unrestricted – especially games like Gears of War 2 and Gears of War 3 that would thrive on a PC environment. So really, what I am saying is that if these rumours are hogwash, my mighty heart would break.
