Since starting development in 2017, switching developers twice and even having a short-lived toyline behind it – the latest (and still not released) Transformers game Transformers: Reactivate has now been announced as cancelled.
After promising an ‘exciting’ update in 2024 from developer Splash Damage, a social media post has finally lifted the curtain to reveal the news all robot fans were dreading – the game will be one with the Matrix.
That’s Transformers slang for “totally dead.”

A short trailer at The Game Awards a few years ago confirmed two things:
- The game would have Transformers in it
- The name of the game
Since then, many online sources claimed to have all manner of incredible knowledge of the title – numerous promises of the game moving to Unreal Engine 5, updating it’s roster, changing scope, you name it – all seem to have been the hottest of hot air, as all these sources have now gone quiet.
Really, the more obvious items of note have been far more telling; such as the game having most of it’s social media items pulled as the title shifted away from prying eyes. The writing was on the wall for the troubled project, given that any game that started development in 2017 has likely got a very different scope compared to more recent titles – and changing developer hands is rarely a good sign.
So on this day we say farewell to Transformers: Reactivate. I would say we hardly knew ye, but in truth we knew less than nothing right up til the end.
